CONCERT REVIEW: The Rocket Summer @ The Wrongbar – 10.21.10

The Rocket Summer

As a fan of The Rocket Summer, I complained a little when The Rocket Summer did not return to Toronto in 2009 on any of their tours, I mean, we are freakin’ Toronto! Bryce Avary of The Rocket Summer loves us. In 2010, loyal fans finally got what they wished for! The Rocket Summer dropped by The Opera House in April, was on whole Vans Warped Tour in the summer, and finally came back in October as part of an acoustic tour. The intimate concert was held at the Wrongbar and it was a sold out concert.Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download

He Is We

The Rocket Summer

A Washington band He Is We opened for The Rocket Summer, I have never heard of them but many people from the audience had. Their performance was impressive and Rachel’s voice took me by surprise. Their beautiful music managed to draw me in deeply. Check them out if you need some gentle and sweet tunes.Just as the name “Bryce Avary, His Instruments and Your Voices Tour” suggests, this tour features Bryce Avary with his instruments and the voices from the audience. Unlike previous tours, Bryce did not bring a back up band with him, instead he played everything by himself just like on the records. On the tour, Bryce showcased his talent as a well-rounded musician and storyteller. Bryce’s performance was very casual and personal – he took a lot of requests from fans and satisfied most with a couple medleys. Bryce played a cover of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Maps”. Other than his usual guitars, keyboard and drums, he also played the ukulele! Bryce took the time to share stories he has heard about his song “Brat Pack” (people did drugs to them…) and the days when he worked at Starbucks (not the best times) animatedly. The night was also the birthday of Bryce’s wife Tara, who also works the merch and tour manages TRS, the crowd sang happy birthday to her! At the end of the concert, despite how packed the place was, Bryce insisted to play a song (“Cross My Heart”) amongst the crowd just like he always does.

According to Bryce, Toronto was not originally included on the roster. Then Bryce said to whoever’s in charge that they have to go to Toronto. Thank you, Bryce. Much appreciated.
